Why should you avoid Sugars!

Weight Gain: Simple sugars as we all know makes you put on weight.They are carbohydrates which adds on to the extra CALORIES and makes you plumper.Anyone wanting to lose weight should limit the sugar intake by 2 teaspoons in the entire day [not tablespoons]. Better if you avoid them totally. Many people turn to jaggery or honey when cutting down on sugars, but remember all are simple carbohydrates and should be minimal in your diet while losing weight. The allowance for jaggery and honey remains the same as that of the sugar.

Diabetes: High blood sugar levels does not have an allowance of sugar strictly. People with diabetes should keep monitoring their blood sugar daily. Many switch to jaggery and honey which is not recommended for them. Artificial sweeteners like stevia can be used for using it in tea and coffee and for occasional sweet cravings. Regular sugar raises up their blood sugar so quickly that in the long run it can have detrimental effects on their body.
Cholesterol: Not many of us are aware that excess intake of sugar i.e. carbohydrates, gets stored in our body in the form of fats.Yes! So people with high cholesterol levels or hyperlipidemia should not only restrict oil, ghee, butter but also sugars in their diet.An increases intake of refined sugar have the biggest impact on triglycerides, low levels of HDL [also called the Good Cholesterol] and high LDL [also called Bad Cholesterol]
Cancer: Patients with cancer are kept on zero sugar diet as simple carbohydrates are not recommended for such patients. Thus simple sugars are strictly avoided for all types of cancers. Eating too much of sugar can also lead to weight gain and increase the risk of obesity and diabetes, which may increase the risk of Cancer.
Dental Decay: Sugars not only decay the teeth of the kids but also the adults by causing cavity and thus causing pain and sensitivity in the teeth. Dental caries develops when the bacteria in the mouth breakdown sugars to produce acid that damages the hard tissues of the teeth or the enamel.
Acne: Sugar and other high glycemic index foods [foods that convert quickly into glucose and cause your body’s insulin levels to elevate] cause your blood sugar and insulin levels to spike. That results in inflammation throughout the body and puts you at risk of developing acne and other skin problems.Hence young boys and girls should avoid simple sugars for acne breakout.

Addiction: Yes it’s True! Sugar is Addictive in nature. It affects our brain pathways just like addictive drugs, and most of us don’t realize how much we are eating.Sugar addiction leads to carbs cravings and urges for something sweet all the time, even when you aren’t hungry. It is also known to cause depression in many people with excessive intake. Limit the sugar intake as much as you can for a healthier you!
