Out of all the nutrients being discussed in the public forum, from carbohydrates to proteins to fats, one of the nutrients haven't been in the lime light and i.e. FIBER. Fiber is an insoluble part of the plants which has innumerable health benefits in the human body.Fiber is known to be resistant to digestion by the human digestive enzymes.

1) Soluble Fiber - are viscous or fermentable fibers (such as pectin) that are fermented in the colon by the healthy gut bacteria.These are essential for good digestion and better immunity.

2) Insoluble Fiber - such as wheat bran, that have bulking action but may only be fermented to a limited extent in the colon. They mainly help in the roughage or easy passage of the stools out of the body.


Ideal recommendation of fiber for a healthy person is 14gm/1000kcal/day. [Which majority of us are unable to include in our diet -thanks to our eating choices and pattern]



Where do we get the fiber from in our diet?

- Whole grains foods like Whole Wheat, jowar, bajra , barley, ragi, all the variety of dals and pulses like chana, chole, rajma, moong, ussal, Sprouted pulses etc.

- All the variety of Vegetables

- All the variety of Green leafy vegetables

- All the variety of Fruits
